What Happened to the Yankees?

The regular season Yankees and the playoff Yankees are two different teams. The regular season Yanks are a beautiful car with very little problems, an oil change here and there and they run like the well oiled machine that everyone thinks they are.
The playoff Yankees are still the beautiful car on the outside but the engine stalls and the interior is old and ripped. Maybe the marathon that is the regular season hides their flaws but the spotlight and a short five game series expose those flaws and there is no hiding them.
The funny thing is the pitching was the worry going into the playoffs and that is not what hurt them, it was their hitting or lack thereof that cost them. The Yankees seemed to get old overnight. Arod and Tex looked slow and overmatched at the plate, Swisher did nothing, and even the great Derek Jeter was silent. Although he almost bailed us out with the shot to rightfield that I am sure we all thought was going out for another Jeterian moment and a 4-3 Yankee victory in game 5. But maybe age has caught up to Mr. Jeter also. As Don Lagreca says on espn radio, “father time is undefeated”.
The future doesn’t get any better since all of our prospects are designated hitters, all of them can hit and none can field. All of our senior citizens are under contract for what seems forever and our best pitcher is going to opt out so we have to pay him more money to stay because he and everyone else knows we need him badly.
All this having been said, I have faith the Yankees will sort this all out, maybe one of our prize pitching prospects, Betonces or Banuelos will step up and be ready for the big time. Maybe Cano and Granderson can carry this team for awhile until the youngsters sort it out. Maybe Arod, Tex, and Jeter can find the fountain of youth in the offseason. I will still be there hoping the beautiful car runs when I turn the key.
