Webb Simpson by the Numbers: 2011 Wyndham Championship Winner

Webb Simpson, who is becoming more and more popular in the golfing world, was the 2011 Wyndham Championship winner. Simpson’s win marks his very first PGA Tour victory. To commemorate the 26-year-old golfer’s impressive win, I have created a list of the numbers most often associated with the golfer.

Statistics current as of August 21, 2011.

August 8, 1985: Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Simpson is young, talented and armed with potential. The former Nationwide Tour golfer played golf at Wake Forest University and has been awarded for his athletic abilities several times. In fact, Webb Simpson was a three-time All American and he was the 2008 ACC Player of the Year.

2008: After playing on the 2007 Walker Cup team and Palmer Cup team, Simpson began his professional career in 2008. The 2011 Wyndham Championship victor used to play on the Nationwide Tour, but now he plays on the PGA Tour.

14: Webb Simpson had one of his greatest finishes at the 2011 U.S. Open. In fact, the North Carolina native was able to finish the tournament tied for 14th place. Simpson has never been able to win a major tournament, but he may eventually. If there is one thing that fans of golf may learn from his impressive victory at the 2011 Wyndham Championship, it is that Simpson will probably have a great future as a professional golfer.

August 21, 2011: Before the Wake Forest University graduate competed at the Wyndham Championship this year, he had never won a professional golf tournament. Fortunately for the multi-talented golfer, he was able to win the tournament on August 21, 2011. Simpson managed to win by a margin of three strokes and George McNeill was the runner-up.

One: The number one is usually referred to as the loneliest number, but every aspiring golfer has to win at least one golf tournament in order to become a victorious golfer. Simpson, who managed to win $972,962 last year, has already won more than $1,800,000 this season. It is also interesting to note that Simpson won $936,000 for his 2011 Wyndham Championship victory and McNeill only received $561,600.

On a final note, golf is a great game to watch and spend time researching. With Tiger Woods experiencing an egregious decline as a player and individual, there are many young, aspiring golfers who are having their best seasons. With Scott Stallings, Keegan Bradley and Webb Simpson currently enjoying their best seasons as golfers, golf fans should expect more of the same for the remainder of the season: enjoyable games and a chance for unexpected upsets, such as Webb Simpson winning the Wyndham Championship.
