Volunteer Services in Gaylord, Michigan

Volunteering is not only a wonderful way to give back to your community, but a great way to feel better about yourself. There are so many different ways you can volunteer your services, from working in homeless shelters to donating to the unfortunate. In Gaylord, Michigan, there are three places that could really use some good people.

1) Otsego Memorial Hospital
Phone: 989-731-2409

Patients always outnumber the faculty and, in most cases, the staff does not have the time to give each patient a little extra attention. That is why volunteering at the Ostego Memorial hospital is at the top of my list.

If, at anytime, in your life you have stayed in a hospital than you know how depressing it can be. That one little visit, a friendly smile, and even a small chat with a patient can make a world of difference to their day.

Other ways you can volunteer are through the Otsego Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. The Auxiliary began back in 1951 and currently donates more than $50,000 a year, including a scholarship program to area students.

Volunteering for the Auxilary includes fund-raisers, working in the Pink Awning Gift Shop, and even a hospital greeter.

Anyone interested in volunteering can print off a form directly from the Ostego Memorial Hospital website.

2) Gaylord Soccer League

There are a lot of youths who would enjoy playing sports, but the lack of volunteers is preventing these organizations from giving these children a wonderful sporting experience.

The Gaylord Soccer League, for example, is in desperate need of coaches this season. Without coaches, the children are forced to play on larger teams, which causes them to play less.

In addition to coaching, the league can also use volunteers helping out with the setting up and tearing down of the field, field painting, tournament help, concession stand, fun day, and emptying the trash.

Any of these services, including refereeing can be submitted via the Gaylord Soccer League website.

3) Retired Senior Volunteer Program
Address: 116 East Fifth, Gaylord MI 49735
Phone: 989-732-6232
Fax: 989-732-8080
Email: [email protected]

The RSVP is a wonderful program that helps adults who are 55 years old or older get connected with varies organizations. Volunteers are always needed and help out with resources involving the United Way, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Hospice of Michigan, and many more other great places.

Transporters are also in need for seniors who need transportation to medical services.
