Unique Ways to Decorate a Little Girl’s Bed

A little girl’s bed is her personal space for relaxing, watching television, reading and sleeping, and it should be warm, inviting and comfortable. It can also look absolutely beautiful and stylishly unique. You can decorate plain bedding with unique additions and without spending a lot of money. I have used a number of very creative budget methods when designing and decorating little girl’s bedrooms for clients that did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on bedding sets. Save money and decorate a bed using one or more of these creative ideas. You can create a unique new look for a little girl’s bedroom unlike anything available in stores.

Wrap the Bed with a Big Velvet Bow

One of my clients wanted to decorate his little girl’s bedroom in an elegant way, but without the typical lace and princess decor. We chose to decorate the room in a more mature way while adding a few special touches to indicate that it was a little girl’s room. The style and design would grow with the child, and she would be able to add personal items as she developed her own decorating style.

I painted the walls a creamy shade of light lavender and embellished the bed with a white comforter with black trim along with a black satin bed skirt. I topped the bed with white and lavender floral throw pillows. The crowning touch was a huge deep-lavender bow. I placed it in the center and draped the ends over the edge. A big satin or velvet ribbon provides a gorgeous way to decorate a little girl’s bed.

Use a Beautiful Lace Tablecloth as a Quilt Cover

Think beyond the bedding department when looking for unique new ways to decorate a little girl’s bed. A lace tablecloth of the appropriate size makes a beautiful quilt cover. I used this option when I was commissioned to decorate a little girl’s bedroom in a country cottage theme. She wanted country style with elegant flair, and a crocheted lace tablecloth provided the ideal way to top her beautiful handmade quilt. Once the tablecloth was used to decorate the bed, it no longer looked like a table covering. It became an elegant handmade coverlet.

Use a Unique Homemade Headboard

Consider the headboard when looking for unique ways to decorate a little girl’s bed. Is it ordinary and uninspiring, or is it stylish and highly original? For a headboard that is truly unique, opt for the homemade variety. It can be as simple as a metal wall hanging or as creative as a handmade work of art, but in any case it can be used to decorate a little girl’s bed in a unique new way.

My daughter wanted a beautiful branch and origami butterfly headboard from Crate & Barrel, but it was out of my price range. I took several photos and created a new version from the design that inspired her room. The article entitled How to Make a Branch Headboard explains how I designed a branch and butterfly headboard for my little girl’s bed. It is absolutely beautiful, and she loves her butterfly and tree branch bed.

Use some or all of my creative ways to decorate a little girl’s bed, and give her the room of her dreams. It does not take a professional designer or an artisan to come up with unique furnishings for the bedroom. Delve into your creative side and create unique accessories for your little girl’s bedroom. It can turn out beautifully, and for far less then the cost of manufactured items.
