Trick-or-Treating Alternatives

Many parents don’t like to think that their child is out wondering the streets on a dark night dressed as someone or something they are not. Not only could they be run over by a car, they may go farther than you have allowed. If your children insist that they need to go trick-or-treating, there are some alternatives that should satisfy them.

1. Allow trick-or-treating in the mall or a group of businesses such as a strip mall or grocery store. Oftentimes, these places will have a safe trick-or-treat plan that lets kids come and still get their candy, but in a safer environment.

2. Many people throw a Halloween party for all their friends to come dressed up and enjoy the festivities. Most of the time, these types of parties include dancing, dressing up and food. If your child is a teenager attending a Halloween party, it is advisable to talk to them about drinking from unopened containers, because there may be alcohol in the punch.

3. Haunted houses are a scream. Most every town has a haunted house attraction that is sure to be a fright-filled night. This may not be a suitable activity for children because oftentimes these characters dress to impress grown adults, who generally have a higher scare level than a child does.

4. Passing out candy may be a fun alternative, but someone has to do it. While others are out collecting candy, you can be the one to give it to them. One of the many perks of this job is that you can still dress up and you get to see dozens of cool costumes come to your door.

5. Scary movie nights are fun, but what could make them more fun than watching them on the scariest night of the year? You can watch all the old horror movies such as Frankenstein and Dracula, and then watch the ones that still give people nightmares such as Halloween and The Nightmare on Elm Street.
