Tony Romo Promising But Uncertain for Game with Redskins

Tony Romo might not miss Monday’s game against the Washington Redskins after all. In an odd development in the saga surrounding his latest injury, Romo might be healthy enough to get back on the football field.

According to ESPN, a CT scan revealed that the puncture of Romo’s lung had healed. This was one of the injuries he suffered in a game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 18 which has analysts debating whether or not he should return. In order to deal with the rib injuries he also suffered, a protective vest has been explored as an option.

“I don’t think we can say anything 100 percent right now. It’s just a matter of the day and keep getting better,” Romo said. “I’m obviously planning mentally going out there, so we’ll see.”

In his conversation with the media, it seems like Romo was avoiding making any direct statements about whether he will play Monday or not. The risk is, of course, that he could make his injuries worse and then miss substantial time from the Dallas Cowboys.

This game against the Redskins is an important one, especially with the Cowboys trailing the Redskins in the NFC East right now. Washington is off to a 2-0 start this year, putting the team a full game ahead of the Cowboys through two weeks of the NFL season. If Washington were to beat Dallas in the upcoming Monday night football game, it would give the team a huge buffer in the standings. That would make it much tougher for Dallas to overcome, and it could be a huge reason why there is pressure to get Romo back before he is ready.

Romo has put up amazing stats in the first two games this year, passing for 687 yards and four touchdowns against San Francisco and the New York Jets. He is at the top of his talent right now, and this is why Dallas would be best with him on the field.

If Romo were unable to go against Washington, Jon Kitna would step in as the backup quarterback once again. Kitna is 6-for-10 in passing this year with 87 yards in limited action. That includes one touchdown and two interceptions against the 49ers. Last season when Romo went down, Kitna stepped in and threw for 2,365 yards in 10 games. During that span he had 16 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions.
