The Workout Routine that is Changing My Life

Recently my husband and I both realized that we were not happy with our physical fitness level. As the parents of two young children, we wanted to be able to keep up with them and also live a long life to see our grandchildren someday. This is when we made the decision to get our lives in check and working out was the first step.

We got a membership to a local gym, but that wasn’t enough. We wanted to make sure that we always went so we both started seeing a personal trainer. I see the trainer 2 days a week for 30 minutes. In this time, I do strength exercises that he tells me to do. It pushes me past the limitations I would have normally set on myself. We usually do one day of legs, one day of arms, and do abs each day. There is also a little bit of cardio with these sessions. I use the weight machines, but also do a lot of lunges and lunges with curls. On the ab workouts, we use a stability ball. These are great for doing crunches and other ab exercises.

Every day that I do not see the trainer I am doing a cardio workout. I usually walk for 2-3 miles on the treadmill. I am working up to running part of it. I started out only able to do a little over a mile at a time, but now I can do 3 easy. This has been very beneficial. I usually take one day a week off from working out.

On the days that I do not get on the treadmill, I am still doing a cardio workout. We have a Nintendo Wii and it is a lot of fun to do the dancing games with the kids. I am amazed that I can do 12 or more songs now without getting tired where I used to only be able to do a few.

We have also changed our diet as a family. We are cutting out soda and also drinking a lot of water. I do not cook with butter or fry anything. Desserts are still around but as a treat and not on a daily basis.

All of these changes in my exercise routine and eating habits have helped me to lose weight. On top of that, they are making it where I feel better and can do more things with my kids. It is worth every minute of it and I plan to keep it up.
