The Unbearable Lightness of My Carbon Footprint: A Thanksgiving Poem

I love this carbon footprint concept,
this excuse, this explanation,
this flagrant bumper sticker
of detachment,
my ethos destined
to manifest –

Never ripping up the stratosphere
and landing with an eagle scream
to snap pictures
of the last natives
of Borneo –

Eco-tourism,
an oxymoron
as shameful
as the commodification
of the green movement –

A retroactive Thanksgiving wish:
Keep your ass at home,
Pilgrim,
and get to work
cleaning up
your mess.
