The Miracle Dog Who Survived Death Row

A 5 year old Beagle has gone from being a stray pup on the streets of Alabama to an Internet sensation. He even made National TV with an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America.

Daniel the Beagle defied death on Oct. 3 at an animal shelter in Alabama. He was euthanized along with a number of other stray dogs, but to the shock of everyone this miracle beagle somehow survived. All of the other dogs who were locked in the gas chamber were dead when the animal control officer in charge of the operation returned, except for Daniel, who was waiting at the door, wagging his tail.

The miracle beagle found a temporary home in Tennessee at Schnauzer Savers Rescue of West Tennessee, where he surely won’t be sent back to the gas chamber. The lady who runs the animal shelter dubbed him Daniel, inspired by the biblical story of Daniel, who walked out of a lions den unscathed. He was also given the last name of “Milagro”, which means miracle in Spanish.

When Daniel was taken to the veterinarian, he received a clean bill of health, another miracle. “It’s very rare that even though he survived the gas chamber, it didn’t even make him sick”, according to the animal shelter manager. Although somewhat underweight and a slightly compromised immune system, it’s nothing that can’t be cured in a loving new home.

It’s apparent that “the angels who pulled Daniel out of that gas chamber” must have thought that he deserved a second chance at life, despite the “ruff” road he has recently traveled, it was surmised.

Daniel, the miracle beagle, is now in foster care, hoping to be adopted by a loving family in a much better environment then he came from. It looks like the 5 year old pup will be getting a “new leash on life”, something he truly deserves.

It is hoped that through Daniel the miracle dog’s story, more individuals will become aware of the need for homes for dogs just like Daniel who were, or are about to be put on, death row. There are a lot of wonderful dogs throughout the United States in animal shelters, just wagging their tails and waiting for the miracle of adoption to happen.
