The Cast of the Help Stole the Oscar’s Red Carpet

The Help was one of the surprise successes of the year. This movie didn’t just tug at your heartstrings, it grabbed you by them. It was a great movie but also an understated one. It took a very moving look at the Civil Rights movement through the story of “the Help,” the black women who worked in other family’s homes, raised their children, cooked their food, but often weren’t allowed to use the same bathroom. It is a Civil Rights story, but it is also a story of friendship and life. It has left people around the world telling their loved ones “You is important.”

The Help has gathered a great buzz and multiple Oscar nominations. On the Red Carpet, the stars of The Help stood out for their elegant looks. These actresses didn’t have the flashiest dresses, but they were perfectly poised and classic.

The Help was nominated for best picture, but it was the actresses who gathered the most talk (and brought home a golden man). They were each perfectly dressed to accentuate their attributes and personalities.

Viola Davis was nominated for Actress in a Leading Role for The Help. She gathered a lot of attention on the Red Carpet for appearing with her natural short hair rather than a styled wig. I loved the confidence she displayed with her short, comfortable hair style. Her face was framed by huge earrings.

Viola’s dress was designed by Vera Wang and was impossible to miss. On a runway full of blacks, whites and gold tones, this dress absolutely popped because it is bright emerald green with a shiny material This dress shows a lot of confidence and could have overwhelmed many women, but she wore it really well. The reporters from E! were joking that she “couldn’t wave” because the dress is strapless and so low-cut, but she seemed to be confident rather than overly revealing. Viola was definitely dressed for success. This was the appearance of a woman who has a lot of Oscar appearances before her.

Jessica Chastain was nominated for Actress in a Supporting Role for The Help. She was wearing a McQueen dress and a large fortune’s worth of diamonds. Her dress was a cross of burlesque and flamenco influences on the Red Carpet, but somehow it did come together into one classy but sexy dress. I loved all of the detailing on this dress. It was very unique and styled, and it worked well with Jessica’s coloring.

Octavia Spencer was also nominated for Actress in a Supporting Role for The Help, and she brought home the man of the night (the Academy Award statue). She staid loyal to her usual designer, and it was the perfect choice. Her dress had short sleeves and a round neck line that was unusually high for the red carpet. Her look was demure and classic, but the shape of the dress also showed her fantastic figure and curves. This dress could have easily been a Red Carpet dud. However, the amazing material is what made it something memorable. It has an almost metallic look to it that shimmered and sparkled. The shaping of the dress was very flattering. Octavia’s hair matched her dress style. It was pulled back in a classic and elegant style that looked beautiful but not overdone. She impressed me with her Oscars style.

Emma Stone was not nominated for an Oscar for her role in The Help, but she was great in the movie and shines on the Red carpet. Again, her dress is unique-this one with a large feature at the neck. Like her co-stars, she was displaying loads of confidence as she walks the Red Carpet.

It may have been Octavia Spencer who won out at the 2012 Oscars, but all of the stars of The Help were absolute stars at the Academy Awards. These were some of the most impressive women in Hollywood last year, and I can’t wait to see where their careers lead them next.
