The Carter Should Have Shown Up on “Tha Carter IV,” Not Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne was once upon a time the king of musical media. Then he went to jail and he was taken down a few pegs. He still lingers as HUGE, but his last couple of albums have been more critically torn by the wolves and in my opinion were lazy crap. “Tha Carter IV” was released in 2011 and I’m stepping back into Lil Wayne’s world (Wayne’s World ha ha) to see if he is stepping into the batter’s box with a fresh approach.

I think Lil Wayne needs to rewind and put some time and serious creative thought into his next album. Or not, he’s probably rich enough to afford the ego and not need the fulfillment of credible glory. I liked the song “She Will,” would even consider downloading it, however, the rest of the songs were forgettable.

“Intro”: In most cases the intro isn’t song length, Lil Wayne is giving you your penny’s worth. Yes, a penny. “Watch me go retarded, yellow short bus.” Yes, that is a lyric from the Intro. Let it rain tomatoes!

“Blunt Blowin’”: Rapping in the voice of a teen girl with a Kardashian high pitched accent.

“MegaMan”: Nothing to really differentiate him from the average crackhead busting rhymes in the streets. He states that the rap game is depending on him, but I guess he was behind bars longer than he realizes and that it seems many moved on. Flavorless flavor of time gone.

“6 Foot 7 Foot”: Lil Wayne goes Bollywood. It’s a bit silly, but eventually the beat seduces you.

“Nightmares Of The Bottom”: I think he nodded off before I did. His ego filled lyrics about knowing he is tight and at the top of the game do not feel relevant. Lil Wayne needs to earn back the clout he had because he’s not at the forefront of the news anymore, just floating on fumes of hype gone and done.

“She Will”: The music has great dramatic atmosphere, you get the serious Lil Wayne and not the alien. It gets dirty, x rated dirty, but it feels real, not gratuitous, a peek into a moody, seedy world of flesh and money. Good song.

“How To Hate”: Scorned by a woman autotune garbage that features lyrics that don’t support the acceptable theme and just making it disrespectful to the ladies.

“Interlude”: Guest rappers provide a vocal interlude and show that they are the ringmasters and Lil Wayne is the clown.

“John”: The best bumps sci-fi UFO style and the rap delivery would be decent too if Lil Wayne or Rick Ross had anything interesting to say.

“Abortion”: His voice squeaks like a doggy toy. Might be time for him to try his hand at acting. Maybe team up with Jackie Chan in something.

“So Special”: I’m burnt out on rappers and R & B artists describing all the great sexual things they can perform to make women feel special. The chorus is always soulful like it is a romantic song, while the rest is just a ego stroking it’s little self. I liked “She Will” and it is quite sexually charged, but in a different, creative way.

“How To Love”: Lil Wayne is not a singer. They make the beat semi-catchy, but reality is always in effect: Lil Wayne is not a singer ala sing singing instead of rapping.

“President Carter”: I am tired of hearing him light up on every single track. Any wittiness there was in sampling “President Carter” ala we had a President Carter is killed by it being leaned on over and over again with the rap being fairly dull.

“It’s Good”: Nothing to draw one into the song. Seems like they are rapping amongst themselves about things only they would care about and there isn’t any fly on the wall interest stirred up and no entertaining razzle or dazzle.

“Outro”: More raw talent in the Intro and Outro than in many of the actual tracks.
