Sony A500 Dares CMOS 12 and 14 Mega Pixels, Live View Two Systems and Up to 7 Fps

Sony A500 has sensitivity up to ISO 12,800 and a new preview system are two of the most interesting data of this couple, who turns his back to the video. Even if Sony did not specify whether the A500 and A550 are the heirs of the veteran A700, everything seems to indicate that the new couple will undertake to occupy this middle category. For that, the young Alpha considerable damage around the rudder than the A330 and A380 to bet on CMOS sensors. Thus, the A500 is the A550’s CMOS sensors incorporate APS-C size 14 megapixel and 12, respectively. According to figures published by Sony, in addition to the already known Exmor technology, both are equipped with a new version of the Bionz processor that promises to improve performance with high sensitivity. In fact, these models are the first signs that dare with a value of 12,800 ISO.

The shutter speed is another of the aspects that seem to be enhanced by this new processor. Thus, the A500 is capable of developing a rhythm of shooting up to 5 frames per second. A figure that is reduced to 4 if you are working with the preview feature Quick AF Live View. The A500, however, takes a step further to offer a feature, dubbed “speed priority”, is able to reach 7 frames per second. In this case, emphasized by Sony, is the exposure that the focus remain fixed during the burst.

Check Manual Focus Live View

Another novelty that they bring with them is a second SLR system in the preview display that adds to the already mentioned Quick AF Live View, based on the presence of a second sensor and allows the user to choose between the conventional SLR viewfinder or this preview. Instead, the new Live View Manual Focus Check more reminiscent of the mechanism used by most models, since it is the same one that powers the camera’s CMOS image shown in the display. Instead, as can be deduced from the cumbersome name of choice, in this case the focus is manual, so this function seems designed for shooting with a tripod made.

1,000 Shots

Despite its similar appearance, in addition to the rear display resolution is concerned to emphasize the distance between both models. Thus, the A500 uses a fixed 3-inch LCD and 230,000 points, while the A550 is distinguished with a swivel screen of the same size, but with 920,000 dot resolution. A performance already known, as the integrated mechanical stabilizer, is now adding new features, like an HDR mode that allows you to automatically merge two consecutive images, or the system of Face Detection and Smile shouter, present both in the preview function. With a focus of 9 points and a viewfinder with a coverage of 95%, the new couple also has the greater autonomy of the SLR time within the window.

According to official data the A500 can hold up to 1000 shots with one battery charge FM500H, while the A550 slightly reduces this figure to 950 photographs. Some numbers, like the company cares to remember, you can double if you use the optional VG-B50AM grip, of course, with two batteries. A500 will be available in late October and will cost $700 .
