Soda and Water Bottle Dishes

The movers haven’t brought your house wares yet? You’ve gotten your first place but you there’s no money, now, for dishes? Don’t fret; you can make temporary dishes that will get you by until you get the real thing. Although your homemade dishes won’t look all that fabulous, they’ll serve the purpose and get you by for now. Every time you drink a bottle of water, soda, or juice, you can make yet one more dish. Water bottle dishes can be used for a long time but are cheap enough to be disposable, too.

A 20oz water bottle is quickly turned into a wine or drink glass simply by cutting off part of it. Use a sharp knife or scissors to cut about a third of the bottle off. With the lid on it, use the top part of the bottle to make the glass.

There are many things that can be used to make a stand for the glass. One thing you can do is to cut the bottom off of the same bottle. Turn it upside-down, then glue the top of the bottle onto it. Glue the lid itself to the center of the bottom piece. Another bottom for a drink bottle glass can be made by using an old CD. Simply position the lid of the bottle on the center of the CD and glue it in place. Other things you can use for the base include a piece of cardboard, a tin lid, or a piece of hard plastic. Some dishes, depending on the materials and glue used, may not be immersed in water, but can be cleaned with a wet cloth.

When you cut the bottom off of a 2 or 3-liter soda bottle, you can make a useable bowl. These are good for cereal, oatmeal, popcorn, chips, pasta, and other foods – as long as they’re not really hot.

Cut up a 2 or 3-liter soda bottle and you can also make temporary plates. Cut the top and bottom off of the bottle and you’ll have a cylinder. Cut up the side to open the cylinder. Roll the cylinder in the opposite manner to which it is currently curled. After doing this a few times the plastic will lie flat. use this as a plate for any number of foods.

No, the soda or water bottle dishes are not impressive on sight but they can sure come in handy when you have none at all. Just remember that the plastic dishes are not microwaveable; serve only cold to warm foods and beverages in or on them.
