So Your New Year’s Resolution is to Loose Weight

Utilizing the concept I have presented here, I lost 40 pounds last year. This is when we make New Year’s Resolutions. The question is what are they and do we keep them? So, I want to make the following suggestion. Write it down and put your resolution in numerous places. If you keep a calendar make it the first entry on the first day of each month. This way you will be reminded at least 12 times during the year.

The next step is to choose a realistic goal. If you are going to lose weight, which happens to be one of the most popular resolutions, create a goal which is obtainable. It should also include the steps needed to reach the goal. So if you are going to lose weight what will you have to do? Some examples of sub-goals to achieve your primary goal are to eat more vegetables. Eat meats that are low in fat. Limit the amount of snacks to three a day. Write down your goal weight and achievements on your calendar. Don’t become obsessive. Maybe you want to weigh yourself once a week and show your progress on your calendar each month. Keep a food diary. This will help you analyze any weeks that aren’t productive for you.

Losing weight would be one type of resolution and again, probably one of the most popular in any given year. It is a goal about self and it involves your own health and appearance. However, I know the journal and calendar reminders will help you keep on track. The sub-goals are your guide. I have only listed a few. If you love chocolate cake don’t cut it out, limit the amount of times you eat it. You should also discuss your goal with your doctor and make sure you are keeping it realistic and healthy.

Also talk to your doctor about exercise. A short walk does wonders. Keep track of those on your calendar. If you do this you will probably find them getting longer. The longer they are, the more you gain physically and the more weight you loose. If you haven’t walked or exercised for a long time start slow and build it up. Again, keep everything in your log.

Other things to consider if your resolution is to lose weight. Don’t punish yourself if you have a bad week and gain weight. It will happen. Review your log and see what was different. If you have company or special occasions remember you can have good eating habits. Look up the menu before you go to a restaurant and decide on what healthy choice you can make. One other thing that I have had to do personally is cut out fast food and pizza. I love them both; however, I suffer from a disease called, “I can’t have just one.” Always keep healthy snacks in your car, purse or briefcase. Good luck, and I hope this helps you stick to one of every year’s top resolutions.
