Simple and Easy Crochet Bottle Cozy or Wristlets

Crochet a simple and easy wristlet that can also be used as a wrist warmer, bracelet, ankle warmers, over anklets to add character or on a bottle or coffee cup as a cozy. The average circumference of the wristlet or body cozy is 7-inches. Vary the length from 3 to 6 inches by simply adding more rows to the pattern.

Things You’ll Need:

4-ply yarn
Size H/8/5.0mm crochet hook
Scissors

Pattern Instructions:

Row 1 – Chain 26 stitches. Join the first to the last stitch in the row using a slipstitch.

Row 2 to ? – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch. Single crochet in the back loop of each stitch around. Slipstitch the last stitch to the first stitch in the row. Repeat the pattern until the wristlet or bottle cozy is the desired length.

Suggestions:

Suggestion 1 – Create a wristlet or bottle cozy using smaller yarn. #8 perle cotton is an excellent choice. The weight of the perle cotton creates a wristlet or bottle cozy that is more delicate and has a glimmer. When using perle cotton, use a Size C/2.75mm crochet hook. Use the same pattern but chain 38 stitches rather than 26. Note that this type of wristlet will not have the stretch like regular 4-ply yarn. Perle cotton will stretch slightly so make a sample approximately 1-inch wide and slip it over your hand or the desired bottle/glass to make sure it is large enough. Add additional length by making the chain longer.

Suggestion 2 – Add beads during the crochet process to create an added sparkle. The beads must be large enough to fit over the yarn or perle cotton. Use a bead that is just slightly larger than the yarn to allow for easy stringing. String the desired amount of beads on the yarn prior to beginning the project. Crochet the bead into the desired stitch by moving one bead up the yarn and place it in the stitch. The remaining beads slide along the working yarn during the crochet process.

Suggestion 3 – Make felted wristlets or bottle cozy from wool yarn. This simple process is done by using a Size K/10.5/6.50mm crochet hook. The same pattern is used. You will notice that the finished item looks very large compared to one made with a Size H crochet hook. Felt the wristlet or cozy by placing it in the wash with hot water. Add a tablespoon of mild detergent and let the cycle run. Remove the project from the washer and block it on a dry towel. Pin the edges into place. Allow it to air dry completely before use.
