Season 13: “The Biggest Loser” Proves You Don’t Need a Gym to Lose Weight

Last week’s episode of “The Biggest Loser” featured the first ever walk-off, when Black Team member Joe packed his bags and left the ranch. This occurred just a week after his brother Mike (Red Team) was eliminated by his teammates. We also saw the emergence of this season’s villain. Red Team member Conda started a bit of a catfight with Cassandra, displaying a high level of immaturity. This week, Conda continued her bid as the whiniest contestant in “Biggest Loser” history.

Because of the State of the Union Address, “The Biggest Loser” was only an hour, so it was like watching the show in fast forward. It opened with the contestants walking outside to an obstacle course. Buddy went home to be with his expecting wife. Alison mentioned that another common excuse is that you can’t lose weight without a gym membership. The team that won the challenge gained exclusive access to the gym while the other team had to be creative.

Alison explained the challenge. Along the obstacle course were a series of questions followed by doors. Each door corresponded with their answers. If they broke through the door with the right answer, they could move on. If they got the wrong answer, they had to wade through a muddy obstacle. The Red Team got the first answers right, and the Black Team slowed down and went through two mud pits. The Red Team finally gave incorrect answers to the final questions, but they had a substantial lead and won the challenge.

Dolvett paid the Aqua Team a visit to see how they were doing on their final week before heading back to the ranch. Dolvett gave them a device to help them map their progress and a workout. We’ll see if they lost 50 pounds.

Chris of the Black Team was upset with the Red Team’s win and wanted the cameras out, barricading herself in the bathroom. Her husband Roy went to talk to her, and she said she wanted to go home. The other contestants talked about how to keep her on the ranch. Bob talked to her. Go figure, she realized that the house is hard.

Bob talked to her, telling her feelings are normal. She said she’s a messed up person. Bob made a good point. He said we are all messed up in one way or another. He also said person who says they got it together is more messed up because they don’t acknowledge life’s challenges.

Bob created a unique outdoor workout, using whatever he could get his hands on, including outdoor chairs. Bob had problems with Gail, who moved slow and cried about every little thing. Meanwhile, Dolvett worked his Red Team in the gym. Nancy talked back to him. Conda gave him attitude, saying she hated him and being generally disrespectful.

Conda distracted other people who were working out. Dolvett put her out of the gym. Even one of the producers talked to her about her attitude. Dolvett came outside to speak to her. She made excuses about herself. Dolvett told her that he can’t help someone who doesn’t want help. She came in and apologized.

Buddy came back for the weigh in, now the father of a newborn baby boy. The Black Team proved you can lose weight without a gym — Chism and Jeremy lost more than 10 pounds. Emily had the highest percentage of weight loss. The Red Team needed to lose more than 48 pounds to beat them. Dolvett’s team brought the team home. Buddy, who went home, still lost 10 pounds. Conda was the last to weigh in. Despite her stubbornness, she lost 10 pounds.

The Black Team went to the elimination room. Because Emily had the highest percentage of weight loss, she had immunity. Gail and Chris were neck in neck in the elimination room. It came down to the final vote to break the tie. Gail went home to complete her journey at home. At home, Gail lost a total of 56 pounds and weighed 266 pounds.

This week, “The Biggest Loser” proved you don’t need a gym to lose weight. There are ways to exercise creatively in your yard or in a park. The Black Team used furniture and items that were just lying around. Of course, you can also use exercise DVDs and your own body weight. Net week, brother and sister Aqua Team come back to see if they lost a total of 50 pounds.
