Ruth Madoff Interview on “Sixty Minutes”

Why is Ruth Madoff on television telling her story on Sixty Minutes? Are we supposed to feel sorry for her?

Let me give you a few reasons that I don’t:

1) Nobody can tell me with a straight face that this woman did not know something illegal was going on. She had an office in the building; a salary, houses, cars, clothes, diamonds, yachts …No questions asked. She was getting hers, so why ask any questions. Suddenly her husband comes to her and says he has been running a $50 billion Ponzi scheme and she tells us that she doesn’t even know what a Ponzi scheme is? Give me a break. 2) Even after investigators uncover the scheme and prosecute, she is still given $2 million dollars. Why? At the least, she is a co-conspirator in the affair. $2 million dollars is more money than most people will see in their entire life. How in the world would they give her anything? 3) Ruth Madoff talks about her and her husband’s suicide attempt in an almost flippant manner. When asked about it in the interview, she says that they took some Ambiene pills but woke up; and then chuckles. Chuckle this! Next time take the whole damn bottle. 4) When asked what was the worst thing that had happened to her, she responded that it was her husband’s affair; not the suicide of their son. (Her youngest son committed suicide on the second anniversary of the bust). Absolutely stunning! 5) She has the gall to talk about suicide in a casual manner; but has she considered how many people may have committed suicide because their life savings had been stolen by this animal. They can both rot in hell.
