Robert Pattinson – What’s Next for the ‘Twilight’ Star?

He’s 25-years-old, dating one of the hottest young ladies in Hollywood, and he’s one of the central characters in the smash hit franchise “Twilight.” I’d say that Robert Pattinson is doing quite well for himself at this point in his life! The British heartthrob made his first big splash in perhaps the only other fantasy franchise bigger than “Twilight” right now in the fourth movie in the series, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”

After the November premiere of part one of the finale for “Twilight,” February of 2012 will put Pattinson in “Bel Ami,” co-starring Christina Ricci of “Pan Am” fame, and the always smoldering Uma Thurman. The story is one of sexual and political power in Paris. Robert will trade in his fangs for a healthy libido and the desire to use it and rise to power climbing up the ladder of successful Parisian women.

It’s a chance for him to stretch his legs as an actor, which is probably a welcome turn for any actor who’s been part of a big movie franchise like the “Twilight” films. For the last few years he’s been playing a teenager who happens to be a vampire. With “Bel Ami” he’ll be stepping into a full-fledged adult role, giving him a chance to explore new territory and themes.

Later next year he’ll star in “Cosmopolis,” a drama about 24 hours in the life of an extremely wealthy man in Manhattan. The film is directed by David Cronenberg who’s most recently known for his films “Eastern Promises” and “A History of Violence.” Cronenberg’s films tend to have a darker tone, so like his role in “Bel Ami,” this film should provide him with a chance to do some more “grown-up” work.

Of course 2012 won’t be complete until “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ is released in November. It will mark the end of an era for all the film’s young stars, and will start the new chapter. The question will then become one of whether or not they’ve all truly gotten their feet in the door of show business, or if they’re just too well-defined by the roles they’ve all played in the vampire romance franchise.
