Rizzoli and Isles Second Season; Character Changes

The hit TV show Rizzoli and Isles is in its second season on TNT. Stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander along with the rest of the cast of Rizzoli and Isles have given interviews discussing the changes in their characters and their new story lines. The relationship between detective Rizzoli and Dr. Maura Isles continue to be the backbone of the show, a backbone that is now growing stronger.

Angie Harmon as Jane Rizzoli is much more comfortable with her relationship with Dr. Maura Isles. In the first season of Rizzoli and Isles Jane and Maura still seemed to be getting to know each other. N the second season they are now firm in their relationship but we are still learning things about each character.

We found out in the first season of Rizzoli and Isles that Dr. Maura Isles was adopted. We met her birth father who is a criminal and found out that her adoptive parents are extremely wealthy. Now in the second season we get to meet Maura’s adoptive mother who at first seems aloof and indifferent to Maura. Jane, the ever protective friend, does not approve of the way Mrs. Isles treats Maura, even forgetting to put her on the guest list of her art installation. In typical Rizzoli fashion, Jane is not one to hold her tongue, eventually concluding in Maura’s mother opening up and acting like a real mother.

Detective Rizzoli is also dealing with changes in her family this second season of Rizzoli and Isles. Jane has to deal with the news of her parents separation even while she is still recovering from a gunshot received during the last episode of the first season. Jane then is continuously irritated by her mother’s comical attempts to regain control of her life, which also inserts her more fully into Jane’s life. Jane’s mother (played by the comically talented Lorraine Braco) soon moves into Maura’s guest house, soon followed by her getting her first job, at the caf© at the police station, which makes for more mother induced headaches for Jane.

Jane’s family drama does not stop with her mother. Frankie, Jane’s younger brother, was seen regularly as a cop who sometimes helped out the detectives. For the second season of Rizzoli and Isles Frankie is determined to become a detective, tagging along on more calls than ever and openly begging for detective experience, even answering phones for Jane.

In the first season of Rizzoli and Isles Mr. and Mrs. Rizzoli throw a welcome home party for their son Tommy who was supposed to come home from jail. Tommy doesn’t show and Frankie and Jane continued to be disappointed with their brother during the rest of the first season. In the second season of Rizzoli and Isles Frankie and Jane seem more positive about Frankie, but Jane is still surprised to find out that Frankie is now out of jail. Although she is happy to see him, she quickly suspects him when Maura’s house (where Tommy is staying) gets robbed. Later Jane has to apologize to Tommy when she finds out he had nothing to do with it and it seems that their relationship needs time to rebuild.

Dr. Isles is doing more field work with Jane and the other detectives in season two, sometimes embarrassing Jane with her tendency to take things literally. Jane is finding other slight changes on the job. Her old partner Korsak has now been promoted to sergeant. Korsak still rescues stray animals constantly but he has changed other habits in the name of his health, losing weight and eating dramatically differently, munching on fiber rich foods, causing some smelly issues with his fellow detectives.

Jane’s partner Frost is more secure in his position than in the first season of Rizzoli and Isles. When his father, a navy admiral, shows up in to demand the release of a sailor, Frost refuses; even stating that in the case detective outranks admiral. Frosts father leaves without saying goodbye leaving his story line dangling and the viewer’s waiting to see when he shows up next.

Rizzoli and Isles is going strong in its second season on TNT.
