My wife and I ran out of microwave popcorn about two weeks ago. But, because of budget reasons, we had to avoid buying more for a while; something that made our movie nights a bit less enjoyable.
Once I finally got paid, this was one of the first things my wife picked up but, because of price, she avoided our preferred brands and picked up a box of Pop Weaver Microwave Popcorn instead.
When I first saw this purchase, I wasn’t overly thrilled by it. I’ve had Pop Weaver in the past and was not impressed with their popcorn. In fact, as a result of that, I haven’t purchased this brand in about three years. However, beggars can’t be choosers and, the last time we had a movie night, we ended up making some of this. And, I was very surprised by it.
I’m not sure whether this is a case of the company making changes over the last three years or my standards not being quite as strict, but after having a couple bags of this brand, I have to admit I’m actually somewhat impressed by it.
The last time I had this product, I had no real issues when it came to taste. I thought it had a pleasant buttery flavor to it and it wasn’t overly salty like so many other brands. And, when I tried it again this time, I still had that same opinion.
My problem with the popcorn the last time I tried it had to do with both quantity and quality. I didn’t think the bags produced as bags from other brands that were priced about the same and a lot of the popcorn was a bit hard to chew because there were quite a few hard pieces stuck in the kernels. This time, however, I wasn’t disappointed by the quantity (there was plenty for my wife and I to share) and the quality was as good as I have come to expect from more expensive brands.
Even the bags seem to be better quality. I remember, in the past, being worried about the bags catching on fire in the microwave because they seemed to be a bit flimsy. But, that doesn’t concern me nearly as much and I feel I can pop this popcorn with reasonable confidence now.
I still have a few other brands that I like better than this brand. But, now that I have had a chance to try it again, I would be willing to buy this brand again in the future.
