Review of Wellesse Liquid Multivitamin

Wellesse offers a number of liquid vitamin and mineral supplements, including a multivitamin, calcium and vitamin D3. A friend recently asked me to take a look at the multivitamin; I had not known Wellesse made a multivitamin before that. My friend told me that Wellesse now markets liquid vitamin supplements to bariatric surgery patients and since she and I both had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago, she hoped I could tell her if the multivitamin from Wellesse would be a good choice for us.

Unfortunately, it’s not. I was appalled to see that the company is marketing this vitamin to bariatric surgery patients. Bariatric surgery patients need a lot of vitamin and mineral supplements, and need certain forms of many nutrients, due to our altered anatomy. I have to say, though, that I would not recommend this multivitamin supplement to anyone, regardless of whether or not they’ve had stomach surgery.

The problem with the Wellesse liquid multivitamin is that it’s missing such a long list of nutrients that one would expect to find in a multivitamin. It has no vitamin K. It has no iron. No potassium. No copper. No zinc, selenium, magnesium, manganese, iodine or chromium. There are gummy vitamins marketed to children that offer more nutrients than the Wellesse liquid multivitamin (not that gummy vitamins are good choices, either; they aren’t, they are always missing a number of important nutrients, but many of them are more nutritious than Wellesse).

I don’t know how the Wellesse multivitamin tastes. I didn’t see a point in sampling it since it is so inadequate. If you want to swallow a small amount of good-tasting liquid without much nutrition, have a tablespoon of orange juice. But then go out and buy a decent multivitamin, one that contains all the stuff missing from Wellesse.
