Lilac Petal is often hailed as a good dupe for Benefit’s High Beam, which is a really great thing because ELF’s Shimmering Face Whip is only $1 for a rather good amount of product. It comes in a small squeeze tube with a little nozzle. Though I haven’t had a problem with it, many people have said they have had problems with their packaging breaking, which can cause leakage. I have had three of these products, and have never had a problem, though.
Lilac Petal is indeed very similar to Benefit’s High Beam. It isn’t lilac or purple as the name suggests, but leans on the champagne side. Like Benefit’s High Beam, it has shimmer in it, which gives it its highlighting properties. Its shimmers are definitely chunkier than High Beam’s subtle shimmer, but it definitely is not chunky glitter. It is a lot more subtle than the same product in “Spotlight.”
This product blends in very easily onto the face, just like Benefit’s High Beam. It is a rather liquid highlighter, though it is not watery. However, I have had problems with other colors in this product. There is a bit of inconsistency in this product. ELF sometimes makes this product without mixing it very well, which can make the mixture rather watery. It is not oily like other highlighters, so I have had no problems with its texture.
A little of this product goes a very, very long way. Though it is a small tube, it will last a very long time if you use it for cheek highlight because you need so little of it to give you a beautiful glow. For the really small price, that is a great deal. It is very cost effective, and I would highly recommend it for those who really want Benefit but can’t afford the steep price.
Overall, I would definitely say that this product is very similar to Benefit’s High Beam, and given the choice in price, I would definitely choose this one, though its shimmer is perhaps not as subtle. This makes a really great cheek highlight or brow bone highlight and can even be used as an eye base, though this creases rather easily. Definitely check this product out next time you order from ELF!
