I made a big pot of chili Sunday afternoon and had plenty of leftovers for dinner last night. However, the chili was a bit too spicy for the kids so we ended up making them some hot dogs instead. My wife wanted something to go with the hot dogs and we didn’t have a whole lot of choices for side dishes so she ended up driving up to Walgreen’s in search of something.
She came home with a box of macaroni and cheese from their new Nice brand.
I saw this product a few days ago while picking up a prescription. But, because I didn’t really want to spend any more money and because I thought we already had macaroni and cheese at home, I didn’t buy it. However, when I was there, I was very impressed with the price. It wasn’t the cheapest brand I have seen. But, it was very affordable considering it was being sold at a store that isn’t necessarily known for its low prices (even on its own brands).
My wife made this to go with the hot dogs and, as far as quality goes, it wasn’t too bad. It was one of those brands that come with a powdered cheese and you have to add milk. I don’t normally like those as much as the varieties with actual cheese. However, it was still pretty decent. The pasta had a bit of a powdery taste to it (most other macaroni and cheese brands do too) but it wasn’t anything that was too strong and I certainly would not have a problem eating a bowl of it.
My daughters seemed to like it too. My oldest had a big serving of it with her dinner and probably would have had more if she hadn’t filled up on a second hot dog first. My youngest had seconds despite being tired to the point she could barely stay awake during dinner (she didn’t take an afternoon nap). And, believe me, even if those kids were starving, if they didn’t like the macaroni and cheese, they wouldn’t have eaten even one serving.
As a result of all of this, overall, I do feel this is a product that is worth purchasing. As I said before, it isn’t the cheapest brand of macaroni and cheese you’ll find. But, it is affordable and you get more than enough quality to justify buying it (even if it is a few pennies more).
