Native American Recipes: Maple Syrup Pie

It was the Native Americans who taught the American colonists how to tap maple trees, how to boil down the sap, how to sweeten beans, potatoes, cakes, and pies. A simpler Native American recipe exists for Maple Syrup pie that came from the Eastern Woodland tribes such as the Pequot who lived in what is known today as Connecticut.

Maple Syrup Pie

What You Will Need:

1 – 9 inch Pie Crust

1 Cup of Pure Maple Syrup

½ Cup of Brown Sugar

2 Tbs Melted Butter, melted

2 Eggs, beaten

2 Tbs of Flour

1 Tbs of Vanilla

1/8 tsp Salt

1/2 Cup Chopped Nuts

Preheat oven to 350 Degrees. Then you mix all the ingredients together in a medium sized mixing bowl. Mix together and then pour into the 9 inch pie crust.

Now, you bake for 35 to 45 minutes.

Native American recipes give a distinct flare to any dinner menu, so I like to try a new recipe each week.
