My Next Flight

On the morning of 9/11, I recall listening to Bryant Gumble announce what I thought was a spoof. What? A plane flew into the World Trade Center? I was pulling into the parking lot to go to work at The Employment Guide-a weekly newspaper dedicated to publishing available jobs. My coworkers were huddled around the TV, in shock. The boss, teary-eyed, decided to release us for the day. Feeling a cold emptiness for all the dying souls, I couldn’t get in the mood for my vacation.

I had a short trip to Oregon planned for the next day. Not even a terrorist was going to stop me from visiting my daughter, who I hadn’t seen for a while. I called Mitchell Field to inquire about flights. The directive was to show up for my flight as usual. When I did, I was sent home, only to discover the airlines needed a day to shift planes and staff. The next flight was packed with passengers who were unusually quiet. When we arrived safely in Portland, everyone cheered. I treasured my visit with family.

We enjoyed our leisure time at a Bed and Breakfast, relaxing over movies, massages, and meals. Feeling free to be on a respite from our work, we had time to talk about 9/11. We agreed to never take our freedom for granted, ever! We felt that most people on this planet wanted freedom-that there are extremists in every religion who cause unnecessary problems-that we have Muslim friends in America who also cherish their freedom, and to NOT blame them.

While grateful for the visit, I was angry that it was cut short by a day-a day I’ll always remember. I left Oregon to go back to my job, only to lose it a few months later. I then had to work as a temporary employee for years, only to discover fraudulent activity, corruption, and greed at every place I worked, including banks and churches! Perhaps 9/11 was a wake-up call for America and the world. It was for me.

After 9/11, I became more involved in the spiritual community. I learned how to meditate with impact-to raise the universal consciousness toward peace. I learned how to do crystal healing, a twelfth century healing art, the purpose of which is to rid the energy field of negativity–stress, anger ,fear, grief, loss, inability to forgive–and move forward in a peaceful, positive, and productive manner.

I shifted my thinking from: “What’s in it for me?” to “How can I help? ” My next flight is for a new consciousness in 2012–a realization that this planet Earth is where we all reside-that this is an abundant universe where there is enough for everyone-that we could redirect our funds toward preserving and sharing our resources with our fellow human beings around the world-so that we could all enjoy freedom!
