Ted Mosby narrates through the voice of Bob Saget to his children about how he met his mother, the Complete Season 6 releases on DVD with 24 episodes. How I met your mother is a fun tale looking at the young lives of a group of friends and their common but funny day to day events.

The group includes Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby, Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson, Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky, Jason Segel as Marshall Eriksen and Alyson Hannigan as Lily Aldrin. Ted is jealous of the engagement of Marshal and Lily so he tries to find his own soul mate to spend the rest of his life with.

Each episode starts with a simple narration to a couple of teenagers by the voice of Bob Saget explaining how he met their mother. A few times he adds to the story as a narrator but the main characters are the focus of the storyline.

Season six follows mostly with Ted trying to save or destroy The Arcadia hotel and an obviously soon to be close friend Zooey. Barney and Marshall work for a bank who wants to tear down the Arcadia for their new headquarters and they hire Ted as the architect.

Zooey is leading a group trying to save the old building but Ted needs to have it torn down to make way for a new office building. He finds himself torn between tearing it down and the fact that it is a historical building but mostly he wants to get with Zooey and not get her mad.

Other main themes include Barney finally finding a girl he cares about for more than a one night stand and Marshall and Lily trying to have a baby. The story is mostly just the main events in the day to day lives of the five friends who are in the mid to late twenties or early thirties, yes much like “Friends”.

How I met your mother is a pretty funny show but in the past I have skipped watching it, I now appreciate the gentle humor and even the womanizing ways of Barney. His look at women as only sex objects and a way for him to get his thrills is a bit annoying but he kind of grows on you, especially when he finally does find someone.

Season six has some very good story lines and even with the almost outrageously womanizing Barney things can get funny in that more down to earth way. Most of the real funny parts are the everyday things that they look at and the situations the friends find themselves in.

Season six of the DVD release has 24 episodes on three discs with video and audio about what you would expect for a DVD television series. Video is clear and without any problems along with good color and nice darks for appropriate scenes.

Mostly the show is a family friendly series and video shows this with more attention being paid to story and laughs instead of the technical aspects. Audio is a nice 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound that works well and at times is quite noticeable for its use of surround.

Being a voice centered series the audio is great and with a good use of surround sound the audio is a bit above average for this type of series. Bonus content on the three disc set is also about average and only includes three audio tracks and three other making of features.

The bonus content is worth a look but the main reason to own this set is the laughs you will get in this “Friends” like comedy. While I don’t think it’s fair to either show to compare the two how I met your mother is well worth a look if you enjoyed the other.

How I met your mother The Complete Season 6: The New is Always Better Edition on DVD is a funny show and well worth a purchase for comedy fans.
