Move like a Ninja!

Sometimes, you’ll be playing tag with some friends in the dark, and will need to be able to get in and out of places without being noticed. Sometimes, you’ll be at the wrong place at the wrong time and need to escape. And sometimes, you may just want to pretend to be a ninja. And in all of these cases, you’ll need to be able to move stealthily. Luckily, it’s not that difficult! Bend your knees slightly, crouch a bit lower to the ground, and pull in your core abdominal muscles. Viola! You’re moving silently! There are, however, quite a few things you need to keep in mind!

While of course you should hope for the best, you should at the same time prepare for the worst. Assume that something will go wrong, and make a general plan up in your head in case something does go wrong. Assume you will always be sighted, so make sure that you have a way out.

Make sure to never panic, and remain careful at all times. When things go wrong, it’s always the calmer heads that are successful. And when things don’t go wrong, it’s the more careful ones that keep it that way. Carelessness and panic are a sure way to ruin any stealthy excursion.

Also remember to not travel with too many people. Larger groups make larger amounts of sound, and they’re more likely to get caught doing whatever they’re doing. You’ll take more time to do things, have a larger trail, and are easier to see.

You should also do everything the hard way. If you really want to be ninja-like, then act like a ninja! Hop fences as quickly as possible, roll from curb to curb. This might sound silly, but it will keep you on your toes and insure that you are quick. Furthermore, people will never expect others to take difficult paths, so they may lose your trail. Even if it is out of view of anyone, jump fences quickly and silently, while keeping your profile low. It also scores a lot of style points if you do it this way.

Cover yourself from head to toe to break up your outline, but avoid baggy clothing as it makes more noise and can get snagged on stuff. Wear dark solids, gloves, and comfortable socks. And most importantly, have fun being a ninja.
