Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue Product Review

Greetings Naturalistas! I decided to provide a long, overdue review of Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue Hair Product. I first purchased this product three years ago following my big chop. I had a teenie-weenie fro and I was desperate to find my curl pattern. After much research on YouTube, I came across several reviews about Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue. Of course in my due deligence, I purposely sought out videos that featured women who had the same hair type as I do. When I saw the miracle this product had seemingly worked on them, I decided I had to order a batch.

Product Promises
When I researched the Miss Jessie’s website, I found that it suggested that this product could be used for:
1. Fingerstyling
2 Strand Twists
3. Spiral Rod Sets
4. Relaxed Hair seeking curly styling and Transitioners, Silkeners and Texturizers.

I ordered the largest jar possible because I tend to be “heavy-handed.” I was excited to learn that this product was not one that would chemically alter my hair as I was determined to avoid anything that might be in the relaxer family.

First Impressions
I found that I liked the scent and consistency of the product. As suggested on the site and on Miss Jessie’s instructional videos. After shampooing my hair, I applied a palm full to my damp, kinky hair. Of course, I anxiously awaited the curl pattern to take shape in my hair. Unfortunately, it never came. I watched as my hair first turned white, then overtime, my coily hair began to shrink. To say the least, I was greatly disappointed. Had I written a review of this product back then, I probably would not have recommended this product to naturalistas with a 4C hair type.

A Second Try
Several months passed before I dared to try this product again. I didn’t want to give up so easily because of the good results I had seen on YouTube. By that time, my hair had hit a much needed growth spurt and I wasn’t looking to purchase any more products. I wanted to exhaust a few of the products I already had in the cabinet beneath my bathroom sink. There it was…Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue staring back at me. I decided to try it one more time. I was going to use this product on my two-strand twists since this was another recommended method to use this product.

The Result
I was very pleased with Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue. It did not shrink my hair this time and my two-strand twists seemed to thrive in this product. Five days later, when I decided to wear a twist-out, I found my hair to be soft and manageable. If I had to choose a con, I would say there may be two I can think. For me, this product did cause my hair to be come somewhat “dry” and I did note some “flaking.” I have used it numerous times over last two years and while I think it does a great job stretching your hair or holding your two-strand twists together, flaking can be a real issue, particularly if it is visible in your hair. Nonetheless, I really would still recommend this product to naturalistas as the pros outweigh the cons. It is definitely a staple you should have in your natural hair care product stash.

I give this product 3.5 stars out of a possible 5 stars.
