Josh Groban Guest Starring on ‘The Office’: What Other Stars Have Been on the Show?

Josh Groban is set to appear on an episode in the upcoming season of “The Office.” The talented singer will play the role of Andy Bernard’s (Ed Helms) brother. Groban recently appeared in the summer romantic comedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love” with Scranton’s ex-manager Steve Carrel. Given Andy’s tendency to break out in song, hopefully we will witness at least one duet (or many more) between the two brothers. Steve Collins and Dee Wallace will also appear in the episode with Josh as Andy’s parents.

Although the program tended to avoid guest-stars in the beginning of the series, it has included quite a few in recent seasons. Many big names have made their way to Scranton. (And many of Scranton’s regulars have turned into big names themselves.) The following actors are a sampling of the guest stars that have played a role on “The Office.”

Will Ferrell
Will had a multi-episode run as the first possible replacement of Michael Scott. As DeAngelo Vickers, he took over the branch for a short time. Unfortunately, his time in Scranton was brief. After boasting of many, many impossible talents, Jim called him out. In an attempt to demonstrate his Michael Jordan dunking skills in the warehouse, Vickers severely injured himself and Will exited the show.

Jack Black
In a special Super Bowl episode of “The Office,” Jack Black guest-starred as himself. Only, he wasn’t really in Scranton. The Dunder-Mifflin employees were experiencing a slow work day and downloaded an illegal copy of a movie starring Black. Jack played a man in a relationship that found himself in love with a very unlikely other woman.

Jessica Alba
Also starring in the bootleg film was actress Jessica Alba. The equally talented Cloris Leachman played the role of Alba’s grandmother. In the film within the show, Black and Alba were a couple until Black fell in love with Leachman’s character. Sadly for Black, Cloris already had another boy toy.

Jim Carrey
The Season 7 finale included a list of guest-stars, including the incredibly funny Carrey. Jim’s character came in for an interview, but he was much more concerned about his family vacation in The Finger Lakes. Where, as he repeatedly says, is actually where he is supposed to be. Although his cameo was brief, Carrey always manages to be amusing.

James Spader
Spader also joined “The Office” for the Season 7 finale. He played a creepy yet charming and manipulative interviewee. Robert California, however, won’t just be a one episode character. James is joining the series full-time!
