Invinsible Incognegro

It’s a bird!… No, it’s a plane!… No, it’s Incognegro!

Unmasked and unshielded, he goes where no sane man has dared to go before. To the infamous Jim Crowe’s backyard, the blackest of places, where evil doers live above the law. And what does he wear for protection? A tailored suit, a smooth-rimmed fedora, and Skin that changes color, depending on who you are! He’s invincible!

In 2008, Mat Johnson and Warren Pleece unleashed the most inspiring, captivating, motivating superhero known to man. His name? Incognegro. His alias? An early 1930s New York reporter who takes down his enemies by the pen. His weakness? He wants to make a name for himself, not just for the anonymous Incognegro! He’s proud!

This story wraps around this fair-skinned negro reporter who buries his way into the Deep South and attends, not social events, not moonshine parties, not pleasant gatherings, but lynchings. That’s right. This black man goes where no black man returns: a hanging. And what does he do while he’s there? He writes down the names of the white men who attend these reapings, and then he rushes them back up north to be printed for blacks and whites alike to see. He’s insane!

And he risks his life every day to do it, all without real super powers. That’s just the most incredible reminder, that heroes are made, not born. You don’t have to have the talent or the special abilities to make a difference (though those traits do help). All you need to do to change the world is set your mind to do so. It’s the Incognegro way! So muddle through your strengths, find an event to attend where you know change is needed, and be the best Incognegro you can be. Whether you’re black, white, yellow, or pink, it doesn’t matter. If Incognegro can make a difference in the most unlikely of playing fields, so can you, so can I! So let’s do this together! Let’s be the superheroes of our time. Let’s go Incognegro.
