Interestingly Directed Music Videos

I love music. I have loved it every since I could remember. When I was a teenager, I would spend all of my allowance on cassette tapes (Yes I remember those days). However, I was never that impressed with the music videos that came with some of my favorite songs. Some of them had nothing to do with the song at all. So here is the list of some of the more interesting music videos out there.

Savin’ Me by Nickelback : The Orange timers of death
.

The concept was well thought out. The young man, who was luckily saved from being smashed to pieces by a bus, could now see small orange timers floating above everyone head. The man was puzzled about the purpose of the timers until he realized that they were “life clocks”. Nothing like walking through a crowd of people with their time left on earth hovering right above their heads. Terribly depressing.

One of the best parts of the video shows an old lady in an ambulance. Her “orange timer” starts to count down very quickly and she dies right there. Another part I thought was interesting was where our young man passes by a pregnant woman and he notices the unborn baby’s timer.

It seems like the whole “seeing the orange timer of death” is a curse passed along like a bad cold because at the end of the video, the man saves a woman from being crushed by what looked like a marble statue from St. Peters Basilica, and now she can see all the little timers on everyone’s head. Lucky her.

All in all, a neat video.

99 Problems by Hugo : Or ” I don’t want to be in that nasty place” song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onDh4P1cE2E

For some reason whenever I hear it I think, that if anything, this song is John Marstons (Red Dead Redemption) theme song.
The video is especially interesting. The camera fades in an out of focus as though you’re looking through the eyes of a really dazed person. The video composition bestows on you a general feeling of this man’s problems, drugs and insanity (from what I could guess, otherwise why else would there be a bear in a straight jacket ?….and an iguana? ) The video is so good in conveying this diseased and nasty dream-like feeling that I felt as though I needed a shower afterwards.

You can also feel the bad-assness of the song thanks to the video. There are two points in the video I particularly enjoyed. As soon as the beat goes at about 24 seconds in, Hugo, who is standing nonchalantly against the wall with a smirk on his face, jerks to the drum beat and the camera goes out of focus. The second part which I enjoyed was where he is in between two women and one is stroking his hair. The look on his face, that smirk , is priceless. He’s practically saying “Yep, I’m awesome, I’ve got two chicks here, you wish were me.”
In any case, the song is great on its own but I think the video added so much.

Walking Contradiction by Green Day : Sh*t Happens
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5gz2d6BbaE

One of my favorites, this video has it all: Danger, things falling out of the sky, danger, cars crashing into other cars…. Did I mention danger?

What doesn’t go wrong in this video? From being nearly crushed by a piano to walking across a busy intersection without getting a scratch, Billie Joe and his band mates nearly escape death and destruction throughout the entire two and half minutes of the song. The heap of chaos they leave in their wake is incredible and makes for a very cool music video.

Plus , the flying cop car towards the end just sealed the deal for me.

Karma Police by Radiohead : Check if your car is leaking before you start chasing someone with it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBH97ma9YiI&ob=av3e

This is one of favorite songs and the video is perfect for it. Its concept is so simple yet brilliant. The message is simple: Do wrong to others and Karma will come after you eventually.

In the video you see a seemingly (actually, not seemingly at all) unfit man running in front of car, trying to get away. Nothing makes any sense until the very end where the car stops to reveal a trail of gasoline that had been leaking. The unfit man, realizing the power he has, sets alight the gasoline which forces the car to keep reversing to avoid the flames.
I love how the trail of gasoline is a metaphor for the crap the driver did in his life and how it all came back to haunt him.

Of course I couldn’t put them all in here. If you have an interesting one, just leave me a comment, I’d love to know about it.
