Ideas for Decorating a Boy’s Bedroom in a Star Theme

A star theme is an excellent choice when decorating a boy’s bedroom. It is a timeless subject since it will never go out of style like celebrities and cartoon characters. It is something that can work into the teenage years, and it is currently one of my most requested bedroom decorating theme options for boys. It is also one of the most enjoyable to create since the results are phenomenal. Give my ideas consideration before getting started, and come up with impressive new wall decor, stylish bedding and more.

Creative Painting Techniques

Wall colors are important when decorating a boy’s bedroom in a star theme. When decorating my last client’s son’s room they requested unique painting techniques. They initially wanted a blue ceiling with white puffy clouds, but I advised them against this idea since they wanted to use a star projector to create constellations on the ceiling.

I recommended painting the ceiling midnight blue and creating a cloudy sky border around the top perimeter of the bedroom. They loved the idea. I painted the ceiling dark blue, and I created a hand painted sky border with beautiful fluffy clouds. I painted the remaining walls a very light shade of blue, and the colors looked fantastic.

Illuminate the Ceiling with Celestial Lights

Forget about using plastic glow-in-the-dark stars when decorating a boy’s bedroom in a star theme. They appear cheap, and they do not glow long after the lights go off. When decorating a boy’s bedroom in a star theme, invest in a high quality projector. After I painted the boy’s bedroom ceiling midnight blue, we turned on his celestial nightlight projector. It looked amazing. The ceiling appeared as endless as the sky, and the twinkling stars were very convincing.

Create a Comfy Cloud Bed Embellished with Stars

A comfy bed is must when decorating a boy’s bedroom in a star theme, and it can look like a fluffy cloud. My client and I selected a featherbed topper for the boy’s mattress and a washable white comforter to cover his bed. The comforter and featherbed made it look and feel like a cloud. We topped the bed with dark blue star pillows and a bright yellow moon. The pillows were a nice finishing touch, and no other decorating accessories were required.
