How to Remove Hair Extension Glue from Hair Quickly

Removing hair extensions can be a difficult task in itself but eliminating excess bonding glue can be even more of a challenge. Expensive or special chemicals are not required to free hair of extension glue. There are many household remedies that can be used to safely and easily remove hair extension glue from hair. Bonded hair extensions can remain a popular choice among women who wear extensions without the stress of removing leftover glue from the tracks. Consider these highly effective solvents to remove hair glue from your hair and restore your natural look.

Olive oil
Combine one part warm water with two parts olive oil in a squirt bottle. Apply the mixture to the extension glue and allow it to sit on the hair for 20 minutes. Use your fingers to gently remove excess glue from the hair. Shampoo and condition the hair as normal to remove glue residue and oil.

Conditioner
Use a brush to coat the strands of hair covered in hair extension glue with conditioner. Any type of conditioner can be used and does not have to be of a good quality to work. Cover your entire scalp with a processing cap and allow the conditioner time to penetrate the glue. Rinse your hair out after one to two hours.

Grease
Hair extension glue can be removed with a combination of hair grease and oil sheen. Massage the hair grease on and around the glue to loosen it up. Remove any loosened pieces gently with your fingers. Put a dab of oil sheen between your fingers and thumb and carefully pull out any remaining glue.

Blow dryer
Give your hair a thorough cleaning with a clarifying shampoo followed by a light-weight conditioner. Use the cold air setting on your blow dryer in conjunction with a comb extension. Work through the hair with the comb extension as the cold air helps to remove stray pieces of extension glue. Do not use warm air as this can re-melt the glue.

Removal cream
Check your local department store or beauty supply shop for a professional bond removal cream. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to properly apply the product to the hair. Do not wash your hair prior to applying the removal cream to keep the scalp soft with natural oils.

Peanut butter
Hair extension glue can be removed with regular peanut butter from your home kitchen. Peanut butter contains oils that work similar to that of bond glue remover. The peanut butter works to break down the adhesive glue and makes it easier for it to be pulled from the hair shaft.

Dish soap
Apply a mild dish soap to remove most types of hair extension glues from the hair. Massage the dish soap onto and around the glue with your fingers or coat the hair with a brush. Allow the soap to set on the hair for one to two hours. Rinse the hair clean with warm water when finished.
