How to Get Rid of Writer’s Block

As a fiction writer, I am no stranger to writer’s block. I get it more often than I’d like, but luckily there are a few things you can do to get rid of it. One of the methods I use to get some ideas flowing is to follow the 100 theme writing challenge.

If you Google the 100 theme writing challenge, a list of themes should appear. These are different topics you can choose to write about. The idea of the writing challenge is to eventually write about every topic. There is really no certain niche that you have to use in your writing. Typically, the piece you choose to write should be around 500 or more words. There are many different variations of the list, so you should see which variation is the best one for you. Just go down the list or choose a random number and the theme that corresponds to it.

I am sure you are curious as to how this would help you if you have writer’s block. Well, for one, it gives you a topic. Sometimes in writing, it is simply finding what to write about that can be the biggest headache. Also, it is general enough where you can go anywhere you want with the theme. Sometimes, feeling like your writing is constricted can hinder your ideas. As long as you write about the topic, the story itself can be something completely out of the norm, and a lot of the time, out of your element. This can actually be a good thing sometimes because it gets you out of your comfort zone and it makes your mind open up to new ideas. You never know, it could end up being your greatest work in the long run.

Lastly, this challenge can actually improve your writing skill. That is always a plus. With enough experience and learning what helps you write the best, writing can become easier. They do say that practice makes perfect, and this is the perfect practice.
