How to Find Modest Costumes for Teens

Have you noticed that the adult sized costumes are the only ones that fit your teenager and since they are made for adults, they are a bit more revealing than you would like? This leaves few Halloween choices for the teenager who would rather be more covered up and the parent that demands a bit of modesty. These ideas will help you find and create Halloween costumes for teenagers that are more appropriate.

Add street clothes to your teens costume to give it more coverage. For instance, take a store bought costume like a short witch costume and add a long sleeve tee and leggings or jeans underneath. This would not only cover more of her body, but add a modern twist to the costume.

Add a layer to your teen Halloween costumes. One thing you can do is to take commercially purchased teen Halloween costumes and alter the costume to make it more appropriate by adding street clothes to it. A typical teen superhero costume can be toned down by wearing a matching dance leotard underneath the costume. The same goes for a fairy costume. Add a pair of matching leggings, or shorts, and perhaps a shrug sweater for coverage and warmth.

Redesign your teen Halloween Costumes to make them more modest. You can turn a 1970s’ Disco dress into a bell-bottoms set. Just find a pair of wide leg jeans, and cut an opening up the side. Cut a strip of fabric from the bottom of the top and insert it into the opening on the side of the pants. For a Supergirl costume that bares the mid-rift and legs, you can give the costume a little more coverage with a matching leotard and leggings underneath.

Use store-bought costumes with street clothes to make a modest teen costume. For an angel costume, you can wear white jeans, a white sweater, and a wings and halo set purchased from the store. Guys can purchase a superhero T-shirt and mask to wear with jeans and forgo the tights that would make them feel inconspicuous anyway.

Skip store bought costumes altogether and dress like someone from popular culture or television. Teens can just pick someone (who actually dresses well) from the A-list and wear what they would wear. Some ideas you can use are Dr.Phil and Robin, Oprah Winfrey, or the Ladies from the View. Old fashioned celebrities would work as well such as Elvis Presley (young or older), Judy Garland, or an actor from the Rat Pack.
