How to Clean the Jets in Your Whirlpool or Jacuzzi Bathtub and Keep Them Clean

If you have ever gone to take a bath in your Jetted Whirlpool or Jacuzzi Tub and found black stuff floating in the water you know first hand why it is important to clean the jets and keep them clean. I found an easy way to clean my jets and an equally easy way to keep them clean. Before you do anything though, check with the manufacturer of your Jetted Tub to make sure that the cleaners I suggest are safe for your tub.

How to Clean the Jets of your Jacuzzi, or Whirlpool Tub: Remove any towels or rugs that might get splashed when your tub jets are running. Fill your tub with enough hot water to use the jets in your Jacuzzi or Whirlpool Tub. Add approximately 1 cup of household bleach and turn your jets on. Run the jets for 15 minutes and then drain your tub. Refill your tub with warm water and run the jets again to rinse. If your jets were very dirty you may need to repeat the wash or rinse step more than once.

Keeping your Jacuzzi or Whirlpool Jets Clean:
One way to keep your jets from ever growing mold is to add 1 cup of vinegar to your bath water while you are bathing and using the jets. Vinegar has anti-fungal properties so it is a great way to keep you and your tub clean. To keep your jets clean, also make sure to never run the jets with any bath oil or bath soap as this scum will get inside your jets and attract dirt, grime and mold. To keep your jets extra clean, every few months run a cleaning cycle as described above with bleach. How often you need to use bleach will depend on your use of the tub.
