Giuliana Rancic Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis

She’s been working tirelessly to become pregnant, but it seems Giuliana Rancic will need to deal with another health issue first- breast cancer.

The E! host/reality star appeared on the “Today” show to reveal that she’s begun her battle with the disease that affects thousands of women.

Talking to Ann Curry, Giuliana made her announcement in stating, “I have early stage breast cancer.”

The 37-year-old explained that she made the frightening discovery back in August right before she and husband Bill Rancic were readying to give in-vitro fertilization another try.

According to Rancic, her doctor insisted she get a mammogram before going through with the third IVF treatment, since pregnancy hormones are reportedly known to “accelerate cancer.”

When the hospital called a few days later, Giuliana recalled “sobbing…It was like the world just crashed around me.”

Though emotional while on “Today”, the star of E!’s Fashion Police assured fans that she intends to make a full recovery. “I will be okay, because I found it early. I’m doing surgery this coming week, and then I go to radiation for six and a half weeks.”

With no history of breast cancer in her family, Rancic admitted that she hadn’t planned on getting a mammogram until she was at least 40. “I never in my wildest dreams expected anything to be wrong,” she said.

Despite the battle that lies ahead of her, Giuliana Rancic remains optimistic in her belief that divine intervention had something to do with the current set of circumstances.

She explained, “I truly believe God was looking out for me. Had I gotten pregnant, a few years down the line I could have gotten sicker. So the baby saved my life.”

Meanwhile the E! news personality credits her husband as being an “unbelievable” source of support during what has been a very rough time. “He lets me cry when I want to cry. He just lets me feel what I want to feel,” says Giuliana of Bill, 40.

And the spouses of four years are still determined to conceive once Giuliana receives a clean bill of health. “I’m not gonna give up,” she says.

Following her announcement, Rancic encouraged all women to get tested for breast cancer. “I think a lot of us think we’re invincible,” she said. “We have to start putting ourselves on the to do list.”
