Game Review: Need for Speed: The Run (XBOX 360)

Let me start this review by saying I have played all of the NFS games and owned many of them. In my opinion, EA went through a long line of lousy games with the NFS franchise. I could find no redeeming factors in any NFS game from Hot Pursuit until the new Hot Pursuit. All of the NFS games from one Hot Pursuit to the new one were a bunch of in city races, in foreign cars. All that drifting was lost on me, I disliked it greatly, and when I purchase a racing game, I want to race. I do not want to spend ninety percent of the game figuring out how to set up a car to perfection, just to make it run one second faster. I do not mind some upgrading and customizing but racing games have gone mad with it; I am not a master mechanic ,and do not care about trying to figure out what works best on each track. Then came the new Hot Pursuit and I thought EA was back on track the game was awesome. Guess I was wrong.

The latest installment of NFS called The Run is a total waste of time, the disc this game were put on were wasted. This is by far the worst NFS and possibly the worst game made for the XBOX. The game play was awful, I could barely keep the cars on the road, and the slightest touch on another object sent you on a flight to the moon. You could only change your cars at the gas stations that were few and far between, the game could be finished in six hours or less depending on your skill. As I said, I am not a huge fan of all that customization stuff but this game gave you nothing. Possibly the worst omission from the game was a “free roam” on other NFS games that is how you learn the tracks and become more proficient.

It feels like there was no time taken with this game, they just threw something together for the holiday season. The one redeeming factor of this game is that it looked good, and the graphics were well done. I would not recommend this game to anyone; it is actually a waste of time and money. If you just have to play the game, rent it or borrow it from someone who trusted EA and bought the game as soon as it was available. If you still have Hot Pursuit play it until the next NFS, and wait until the reviews before you purchase the next one. This is just my humble opinion I am sure there are some that like the game and will disagree, that is why I suggest renting the game before buying. This will save you the full cost of the game if you dislike it as much as many others.
