Five Tips for Sending Thank You Cards to Pet Owners

Pet owners love their pets and consider them members of the family. No matter whether they own dogs, cats, rabbits, or any other critter with a fur coat, pet owners hold them close to their hearts. As for you, perhaps pet hair on your black pants isn’t your thing … or then again, maybe you don’t mind it because you love animals. Regardless, if a pet-lover has performed a kindness, a thank you card is the chance to give warm fuzzies by emphasizing what a wonderful critter he/she owns. The following tips will help you find and send just the right card.

Where, oh where, have the doggy cards gone? Cards with pictures of animals are available at both chain outlets and local stores. Sometimes you’ll hit the jackpot and find a good selection … but not always. Another method is to buy online at sites such as Hallmark and American Greetings. Print-on-demand sites like Zazzle or Cafe Press contain “stores” whose owners have created cards that are not only specific to the particular type of pet (dogs, cats, horses … even racoons), but specific to individual breeds, as well.

Choose a card featuring your friend’s breed. You’ll find cards featuring welsh corgis, labs, chows, Siamese cats, Persians, French lop rabbits, quarter horses … you name it, you can find it. You’ll impress him/her if you send a card with the breed he/she loves on the front. As for snake owners? Well, undoubtedly if you hunt hard enough you’ll find a note card with a creepy-crawly on it, too!

If possible, customize the text or image. Another benefit to buying a note card online is that you can often customize the text and images. Consider putting a quote, cute saying, or even your friend’s name and that of the pet. If you have a photo of the pet, you can use that, which will touch your friend’s heart.

In your note inside, mention your friend’s pet by name.
It’s a true buddy who remembers not only the names of a friend’s children, but also the name of the family pet. Be sure to thank the individual for whatever kindness he/she performed, and then mention something about the pet. Perhaps the animal was friendly, cute, or did interesting tricks. If you’re not a pet lover yourself and absolutely can not think of anything nice to say, you can always mention that the animal had pretty eyes or soft fur.

Send it through snail mail. Oh, but it is so much easier to send an e-card, right? Face it, easiest isn’t always best, and it has greater meaning if you send a thank you card through the postal service. It means you went to the trouble to find a stamp and to go to the post office. It’s a small act, but in an era where the only thing people get in the mailbox are ads, a note card is a pleasant surprise.

In conclusion, If you’re going to all the trouble to send a thank you, why not make that card special? You’re sure to win a pet owner’s undying affection with a thank you card that contains customized text or images, matches the pet breed he/she loves, includes something you liked about the pet, and that comes through the postal service.
