Fall’s Most Important Makeup

One thing I love about fall is the change in makeup. I love deep eye shadows, warm blushes, wine stained lips, and especially, black eye liner. And I think that fall is the perfect time to update your makeup. You (and I!) need to go through our makeup stash and get rid of anything old, spoiled, or just plain ugly (like that evil neon blue shadow you bought last year). A great rule of thumb: If you don’t wear it, toss it. You need to make room for the newest, latest makeup, and trust me, there are a lot of great products that you will love. Here are fall’s important makeup products.

Shimmery bronze eye shadow. This is a color that looks great on pretty much everyone. If you are fair, choose a paler shade. If you are tan, choose a darker shade. If you are young, go crazy with the shimmer. But if your skin is a little bit more mature, opt for a little less shimmer or it might over-emphasize those crows feet and fine lines. Shimmery bronze shadow looks great alone, or as a neutral complement to a more intense color. It also works great as part of an updated, smokey eye. Instead of dark charcoal liner and shadow, use shimmery bronzes instead. The look is sultry, sophisticated, and right on trend.

Smudgeable charcoal liner. Charcoal is a great color for most people. I love it because it’s not quite as severe as black can be, but still dark and mysterious. Layer it on and smudge it for a great smokey eye look, or use it to thinly line the eyes for a more traditional look.

Purple shadow. Purple shadow is great for playing up green and brown eyes. My favorite is an intense, bright shade of purple, but there is a shade for every taste and personality from dark eggplant to soft pastel. Choose a shadow that can be applied wet or dry for the most variety.

Red lipstick. The classic red lip is the must have makeup look for fall. Keep the rest of your makeup simple. Always fill your lips in with a neutral lip liner to prevent your lip color from bleeding. Use a thick, glassy gloss over top for the most extreme red lip.

Extreme mascara. Ultra lush lashes are a must have for fall. Curl your lashes to open up your eyes, and then apply two to three coats of your favorite volumizing mascara. Try a few different brands to find the one that you like best.

Cream Blush. Since the cool fall air can be a bit drying, try a great cream blush to add moisture and a dewey finish. Go for colors like coral or soft fuchsia to complement your skin tone. Start with a tiny amount and blend. You can always add more color if you need it.
