Fall Fungi Fruits

The rain has come, the soil’s soft
branches fall, then get wet and rot
the wind that blows, spreads tiny spores
landing on, the decaying floor
the moisture absorbs, into the growing source
as it spreads its roots as fruiting support
pinheads come up, when the sun beams down
colonizing debrise on the fertile ground
as the fungi flesh, slowly shows,
reaching up to the ferns that grow
the cap opens up, and drops its viel
releasing spores into the cool fall air
