Do You Value Your Time More Than Your Money?

Like most, I like to think that I’m a pretty smart woman who can do just about anything that I put my mind to. The problem is-I just don’t have time to do everything.

When making decisions on whether or not to spend money on something, the question that I often ask myself is: should I do this myself or should I pay someone else to do it? Is my time worth the few dollars I’m saving?

I know of a few people who would have a fit at just the thought of paying someone to do something they are perfectly capable of doing themselves (more power to them!). However, in my opinion, with all of the obligations and busy schedules we have in life, there has to be a balance-a little give and take-when it comes to doing things yourself versus paying someone else to do them.

For example, two things that I really should do myself (I really want to!), but I tend to “outsource” to others are my meals (okay, so I eat out a lot) and cleaning the house (maid service-don’t judge me). I could be saving money by doing these things myself, however I value the little free time I do have.

When considering the use of your time or money, consider whether or not it makes sense. Does it make sense to sit in a salon all day to save a few bucks or is it worth paying a few extra dollars to be out in an hour so you can be making the most of your day?

When it comes to personal finance, it seems that there is more time and energy devoted to how to save money, rather than talking about when it makes sense to spend money. For me, it makes sense to spend money to accomplish all the things that I want done. Money we can always make, but the loss of time is forever.

So which is more important to you? Your time or your money?
