Democracy Now and March on Wall Street Paper

Thousands of demonstrators protesting corporate greed are very furious over what is being done. These protestors feel that the rich should not have all money. And “they” are people that are millionaires which have corporations, or might just even have a donut shop. As long as they make way more money than the average citizen then these people are not accepted in the eyes of the viewer, because they are believed to be greedy. This last Saturday night in Times Square some protestors were shouting “Banks got bailed out, we got sold out.” “Chase bank is making tons of money off of everyone … while people in the working class are fighting just to keep a living wage in their neighborhood”. Police are actually violating the First Amendment and other legal concerns, and police action in the park without a prior court order would be unconstitutional and unlawful. Some of these protests are very legal until they make damage to a property or in any way a threat to American citizens and the community.

The word is out, this is now a global network movement. I shift more towards a Republican aspect. Yes I do not agree with everything that republicans do, but in this aspect of if the rich get it, then they can keep it. They have worked hard to get where they are. Some might have as being lucky enough to get it passed down from their parents. I believe the Obama administration is why the protestors are not getting kicked out of time Squares Park. His idea as a democrat is to tax the wealthy more than the poor. So Obama could be supporting the protest, and Americans are doing things they never have been able to get away with before. Because of this, the U.S. could be facing a major uprising in the American society as well as changes. I really never tuned into this matter before today, and now having not even known they had spent their first night in the park; they are on their way for the thirteenth night. In my position yes the American society is having hard times. But when has it not had hard times? We have seen in history that socialism never works. When using socialism; one cow is everybody’s cow. Everybody gets some of the meat spread out equally. But if you’re getting the same amount, then why work harder to get more meat if it’s pointless??? Then who will do the work at all to butcher the meat. I know I won’t, especially if I am guaranteed to get some anyway. Nobody will do the work unless they gain something over somebody else. But taxing the wealthy more isn’t all the way socialism, but it is moving more towards it. My dad being a wealthy man, I know he has worked very hard to get where he is today. So why should he suffer. The economy will bounce back eventually. When the Great Depression was here we never taxed the rich. And looked what happened, we came out on top in the end. My conclusion is that we will sink very low. But unexpectedly we will bounce back without being unequal. Because isn’t that what America is all about, being equal.

When reading the text in chapter 6 it talks about poverty rates, the rich, and the poor. The working poor people are talked about on pg 190 as quote “the working poor are individuals who spent at least 27 weeks in the labor force but whose incomes fell below the official poverty level.” This shows us that even when Americans have jobs they still don’t have enough money sometimes to support themselves. Is this because of the wealthier people? In some cases, yes. So why not tax the rich more? U.S. is now considered a welfare state as stated on page 188. The book actually seams biases on what they believe. There isn’t much of anything good telling on how the rich earned their money and they should keep it. It talks about the plans to tax the rich more, and that it is fair for them to do this. But I have the opposite opinion. The book quotes on page 189 “Are the Rich a Social Problem?” It later accesses the rich to see if they themselves are a social problem. And the book says there is no evidence to this claim. The rich are not a social problem, but people treat them like one.
