Dealing with Depression During Tough Economic Times

One thing to know for sure is that depression is nothing to be embarrassed about no matter the sex or race of the individual.

Depression seems to creep up on us at times out of nowhere or so it may seem. What is important to understand is to recognize the signs of depression early and seek help as soon as possible. Some signs of depressions are as follows:

constant sadness irritability hopelessness feeling worthless or guilty for no reason loss of interest in favorite activities trouble sleeping low energy or fatigue significant weight change difficulty concentrating

If you recognize these signs this by no means is a self diagnosis but you should make an appointment to see a doctor or find what services are provided in your area at no cost or discounted. Dealing with the loss of a job, or separation, losing your home or loved one, etc. are a few examples of some reasons that depression can set in this economy. They are not the only reasons but just a few possible causes. Trying to find ways to deal with depression can be a job all by itself. Daily trying to find ways to muster up the strength to get out of bed and force out a smile when all you really want to do is cry and disappear from the world. Feeling like the world is going on and moving forward while you stand in the shadows unnoticed. Like no one cares whether you live or die. Draining your brain trying to figure out ways to make ends meet every day so that you can feed your family. Praying the collection calls will stop. Trust me, there are so many people going the same emotions if not worse.

One way to deal with depression is to truly look around you and notice the things you have that you should be grateful for. The fact is that God allowed you to continue to wake up each and every day whether you feel right that’s a good thing or not is truly a blessing. God sees the greatness you possess and know that the situation you are currently in is only a test to bring you to your greatness. If you take the time to talk with some truly happy and successful people, you will find that they too encountered some incredibly tough times before reaching that level of success.

Something many people find really helpful is to change their habits. It may not happen right away but take small steps to do something different and positive daily until it becomes a habit. Try reading some highly recommended self help books or find mentors to spend time around. When you spend time around successful and knowledgeable people, you find yourself starting to view life differently and things in your life will start to turn around for you. It takes having at least a small amount of faith in yourself and a willingness to change and watch your greatness start to unfold! Remember you can’t have a testimony without a test! Depression doesn’t have to hold you hostage. You can go on to live an amazingly fulfilled life and keep your depression under control. Remember take the first step and get the help you need and deserve.
