Camping Angels

During one hot summer night, a young boy with color in his hair like autumn leaves, sat on the corner of a bed scared to move. This young boy by the name of Cameron had awakened to a full bladder.
As Cameron sat up with his space ship blanket still wrapped around his body, he saw something glowing standing by another campers bed. Cameron sat frozen. He looked around the room to find more glowing masses were standing around different beds.

Cameron’s breath appeared to become shallow as his heart began to race. What were these things he was looking at he wondered. Mustering up all the bravery he could find within his little 12 year old body, he got up and began slowly tiptoeing to the bathroom to prevent from urinating on himself.
The glowing beings, began to follow Cameron into the bathroom. Cameron came close enough to one of the ghosts. The being appeared to be as young as Cameron was. Cameron looked into the empty blackness where the eyes were supposed to be.

Suddenly, Cameron found himself unafraid of the being. The being pointed to the wall where a smoke detector now hung flashing its green light. Wonder filled Cameron’s eyes as he watched the ghost try to tell him a story.

After Cameron used the bathroom, he then walked back to his bed and sat on the edge watching as the angelic beings appeared to be watching over the other campers. The next hour or two, with more peace than Cameron had ever felt, he fell asleep.

When Cameron woke up the next morning to the wake up call. He excitedly got dressed and then with only one thing on his mind, Cameron approached one of the camp counselors.
” Did you ever hear of ghosts in the sleeping quarters?” Cameron asked Mr. Jones.

Jonathan Jones, a 19 year old camp counselor smiled and spoke of the story he heard every year.
” On the exact date of June 12 every year there are 20 children and a camp counselor that visit the camp grounds. The story that has been passed down to me states that June 12, 1982 on the grounds the new sleeping quarters now stand, 20 kids were burned alive with their camp counselor. It is said now days, they come to protect the campers that reside on the land during the anniversary of the fire to make sure that nothing like that happens again. There are some campers that get scared and never want to come back. Others like yourself are curious and find peace about the little camper angels.”

Cameron smiled at hearing this story and he vowed next year he would be back at the camp next year on June 12 as well to witness the visitation again.
