California Assembly Member Mary Hayashi Shoplifts at Neiman Marcus

There is considerable news coming out of California these days, not the least of which involves my two favorite subjects: politics and jewelry. Let me make the connection for you.

Check out the strand of Tahitian black pearls on Mary Hayashi in this Sacramento Bee photo. Who is Mary Hayashi? Well, she has three roles. One is Democrat Assembly member in California’s State Legislature. Another is wife of Alameda County Superior Court Judge, Dennis Hayashi. Third is shoplifting thief.

Caught red-handed

Yes, Mary was caught with the goods. High-end items worth $2,450 went unpaid as she checked out of a Neiman Marcus store in San Francisco. Oops, she must have walked out of the store forgetting to pay. But no, she paid for some things, just not 2,450 dollars worth of high-end goods in her possession when she was nabbed. She was charged with felony theft.

Who, me?

Naturally, Mary pleaded not guilty. She was also able to post $15,000 bail upon her arraignment. No wonder. As a CA State Assembly member, Mary pulls in $95,291 in salary a year. Add to that any familial pooling the Hayashis might do with His Honor’s CA Superior Court judge salary at $178,789 (at least). So, it’s not like Mary didn’t have the money to pay for the $2,450 worth of unpaid goods in her bag.

Yeah you, but why?

So, why does a lady like Mary have to steal anything? Here’s my theory. Here’s where my two favorite subjects, politics and jewelry, both enter the picture.

Elite

Again, check out Mary’s strand of Tahitian black pearls. Maybe they’re large dark freshwater pearls. I don’t know, it’s hard to tell, but one thing is certain: Mary likes expensive, upscale jewelry. One can tell by looking that Mary has nothing but the best.

Entitled

We also know Mary is a Democrat. Knowing that alone says there’s some entitlement thinking going on. Democrats do that. They are raised on the belief that what’s theirs is theirs, and what’s mine and yours is theirs too.

That includes the nice things at Neiman’s that Mary just “had to have” without paying, of course. After all, Democrats just grab what they want, whether or not they earned it for themselves. They are deserving, and the law does not apply to them.

Exempt

Besides, Neiman Marcus, that big bad business, rips off customers everyday with its ‘needless markup.’ Rationalization for stealing, be it usurious tax rates or upscale retail goods, occurs routinely in the mind of a Democrat. Monies or goods confiscated from the people or businesses that earned them is okay, especially when distributed to others while keeping a tad for oneself. Maybe Mary thought she was performing an act of social justice or defensible wealth redistribution. That $2450 worth of stuff was just a little reward for herself.

Rules, what rules?

Clearly, Mary Hayashi and others like her live by a different set of rules. There are the rules for us and the rules for Dems. Do not believe for one minute that the laws of this land apply the same to both.

Next, I’ll be reporting that Mary Hayashi’s left-leaning trial judge delivered a ‘not guilty’ verdict. And we’ll see if she got away with any nice jewelry in that bag.
