Famous Freddie’s in Fox Lake is great for lunch, hanging at the bar, or dancing all night long. Accessible by both car and by boat, there’s no excuse not to go. The food is good and inexpensive. There are many beers and fruity frozen drinks to choose from. Food and drink specials go on every day! Outside there is a “bikini bar” for the beach goers. A bit of a change of pace from Famous Freddie’s is Duke’s Alehouse & Kitchen in Crystal Lake. This bar is more of a “good ‘ol boys” kind of bar, with a more trendy dining area complete with a stage. Live music is a common occurrence here. Once per week they even offer karaoke for anyone who is interested. The food is priced pretty average, but it tastes amazing! There are even great choices for vegetarians such as a veggie burger on a pretzel bun. This place even utilizes locally grown food. If you’re feeling more adventurous you should look into their “beer school.” Hours at Duke’s are as follows: Sunday-Thursday 11:30am-1am. Friday-Saturday 11:30am-2am. If you’re interested in sports, you’ll love Firewood in McHenry. It offers a bar and lounge area with tons of plasma screens so you can watch all of your favorite teams! In the lounge Monday through Friday 4pm-6pm there is a free happy hour buffet with beverage purchase, and free pizza and wings buffet Friday and Saturday 11pm-1am also with a beverage purchase. They offer tons of other great food and drink specials all week long. The dining room is a great place for a family lunch or dinner with good food at an average price. This place would also be great for corporate events or rehearsals. Hours are: Monday-Thursday 11am-1am. Friday and Saturday 11am-2am. Sunday 9am-1am. The kitchen is open until 10pm nightly.
