Christmas?

We are in a very busy time of the year. Buying gifts, baking, and planning family gatherings. Children are thinking twice about being naughty or nice for Santa. Parents are stretching their budgets. Teachers are looking forward to a break. Blinking lights are everywhere and winter is settling in. Somewhere in the midst of all the commotion is…Christmas.

Hmm…It can be very easy to forget the reason for this holiday season IS Christmas.

We come by it natural though. Ignoring God. God isn’t surprised. He was there when he created us and He was there when we failed him. All the way back to Adam and Eve – when they sinned against God and caused all to follow an ugly path.

Isaiah 64:6 We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.

God was prepared. He knew what we humans would do, so he made a plan to provide light to lead us back to the right path.

Luke 1:78-79 Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace.”

That light is Jesus. And he came as a baby many years ago to be that light.

Jesus Christ. Christmas: the Christ – Mass. The time to celebrate the birth of God’s Son who saved the world. May we take time to put Christ at the top of our priority list instead of trying to squeeze him in.
