A Faithful Friend

As age takes its long, slow stroll to the grave,

Brain cells delete and memory fades;

Friends are long gone, along with her beauty;

Her children take care in filial duty.

But as she sleeps on there is one who will stay;

He’s faithful no matter what happens each day.

A constant companion and a faithful best friend,

Offers love that sickness and age transcend.

No she’s not alone, though the end draws nearer

His love for her is ever shown clearer

Who is this friend who stays close, no caveat?

This one who pays homage to her is her cat.
