There are various ways to go “green” when you are planning your ceremony and reception decorations. In the end, it will not only look great, but your wedding will be completely unique. Thrift store decor

You can find some treasures if you dig around the local thrift stores. Some of these things may need to be cleaned up a bit, but they will ensure you have your unique, green wedding. Look for unique vases, bowls–even small photo frames can be cleaned up to hold name place cards at your reception tables.

Borrow from nature

You will find numerous useful items in your backyard or in the woods. Look for fallen twigs that can be held in vases. Pine cones can be spray painted and placed in a shallow bowl. Scatter rocks around your centerpiece, or place them in a clear bowl around a pillar candle. Your options are virtually limitless.

Recycled containers

Save those aluminum cans and glass jars to use as recycled wedding decor. Glass jars, for example, can be decorated in a variety of ways. Fill it with water and place a floating candle in it. Wrap a ribbon or twine around the top and tie it into a bow. Fill it with sand and place a tea light candle inside. Paint aluminum cans, or cover them with fabric, and fill them with flowers–or plant your own flowers inside and watch them grow as the wedding draws near.

Potted centerpieces

Again, potted flowers make great, green wedding decor. They are inexpensive to grow yourself, and you can plant them in decorative containers or recycled cans. If you choose to pot your own flowers or herbs to use as table centerpieces, give away seed packets as favors to your guests.

Double it up

Double up candy or favors as part of your decor. For example, candy buffets are becoming popular. Use unique jars and containers from thrift stores to hold all kinds of candy for guests to take home. You can use candy in a particular color theme, or none at all. Provide homemade favor boxes for guests so they can take their candy home. You can also fill jars with candy or place cupcakes on the tables as edible centerpieces.
